About Formatomat
Last updated: 19 October 2026
Formatomat started from a simple idea: converting a file shouldn’t mean handing it to a stranger.
Why Formatomat
Most online converters upload your files to their servers, process them there, then let you download the result. Your photos, contracts or statements end up in someone else’s hands. Formatomat does the opposite: conversion happens entirely on your device, in your browser.
How it works
Modern browsers can decode images, audio and video, draw PDF pages and compress data. Formatomat builds on those abilities (Canvas, Web Audio, WebCodecs, WebAssembly) and on open-source libraries that load only when you need them. The result: no upload, no queue, and a site that stays usable offline: pages you have visited since the site’s last update open, and conversions you have already used keep working; other pages show a notice saying so.
What Formatomat doesn’t do
- It doesn’t ask you to create an account.
- It doesn’t watermark your files.
- It doesn’t store your files or send them anywhere.
- It doesn’t sell any data.
